I just finished Dexter season 6, and I definitely need a glass of wine. I only have reds, so I’m going to put it in a dark glass and pretend it doesn’t look like blood. Anyone who’s seen Dexter through season 6 knows how I’m feeling right now. But it’s definitely not as bad as after the Red Wedding in A Storm Of Swords.

I picked up this Blue Fin at Trader Joe’s for around $3. I’m still trying to find something to replace that delicious shiraz from Columbia Crest Two Vines back home that I can’t seem to find anywhere down here. And, hey, for $3, it’s worth a try anyway.

It’s a Napa wine, but I’m still not sold on their quality. They leave me missing the Columbia Valley wines back home. So I’m hoping this one lives up to its $3.

It’s a little spicy with a lot of blackberry on the bouquet. There’s some black cherry in there too, and it makes for a well-rounded nose. It’s also a very dark wine, almost completely opaque.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh so smooth! All of the scents in the bouquet come out on the tongue. I get a much more fruity flavor up front, but near the back I get an almost acidic, metallic taste — which I don’t like, but I can live with it. It has a tiny little tang at first too, which is really unique, like you’re biting into a barely ripe raspberry. Yummmmm! This one is great! It’s kind of like drinking a red velvet cake. Syrah’s are always good, and I’m happy to find one for less than $5 so I can keep my cheerful habit up.

Apologies, too, for the sporadic posts. It’s hard to keep a regular schedule for this blog because some days I come home and just don’t feel like cracking open a bottle of wine. Surprising, I know! But it’s true. Some days I’d rather come home and have a mojito or even just a honey soy (which is the best invention ever. I had it at BeaBea’s in Burbank with breakfast a couple of weeks ago, and I’m addicted).
